Messi is a very sweet 12 year old senior terrier who came to us for having trouble eating and drooling at the mouth. On physical exam, we found that he needed a dental to remove all his diseased painful teeth. Even though his mom wanted to do what’s best for Messi, his mom was unable to afford dental care. Fortunately, we received a grant from @greymuzzleorg this year that can help cover a portion of the dental bill for senior dogs over 7 years old. We are so thankful for this grant and we are excited to make dental care more accessible for our senior patients, so that they can have an improved quality of life. #veterinarysocialwork #veterinariansofinstagram #veterinarianlife #bipoc #dogsofinstagram #chihuahuasofinstagram #seniordog #dentalcare #dentalsurgery

Shadow is a very sweet terrier mix who was attacked by another dog at the dog park. His owner didn’t know what to do, so he brought him to the @sfanimalcareandcontrol shelter for help. The shelter took Shadow in to help because his owner wanted what was best for him and he couldn’t afford the emergency fees at the emergency clinics. @sfanimalcareandcontrol asked us if we could help treat, so that he could go back to his loving owner. We treated him for his wounds and sent him home with appropriate medications to help him heal. His owner was so thankful and we are so happy we were a part of reuniting Shadow and his dad. His dad is Spanish speaking and fortunately we have many Spanish speaking staff members to bridge the gap in access to veterinary care. Thank you @sfanimalcareandcontrol for including us in the return of Shadow back to his loving family where he belongs ❤️. #veterinarian #veterinariansofinstagram #bipocbusiness #yorkshireterrier #veterinarysocialwork #humananimalbond #shelterdogsofinstagram #accesstocare

Monster is a sweet 8 year old chihuahua who needed urgent care. His mom reached out because monster had fallen off her lap and broke his jaw. His mom was unable to afford care at the emergency clinic and reached out to us for help. On physical exam, we found him to have severe dental disease and a broken left jaw. We took X-rays and found that the broken bone was around an infected tooth. We suspect that his jaw had become weaker from his dental disease and broke from the fall. Monster was too painful to eat. We placed him in a soft muzzle to stabilize his jaw and also placed a feeding tube in his neck. The feeding tube provided him with necessary nutrients while we gave him time for his jaw to heal. Monster came back for a recheck and he’s doing great! Although his jaw did not heal perfectly normal, it’s stable enough for him to eat on his own without any pain. Once his jaw is fully stable, he can receive a dental to remove all the infected teeth that is causing his jaw to weaken and break. Preventative dental care is very important and we provide this service at Vets in Vans! Poppy is an 11 year old sweet senior chihuahua who got into a scuffle with a large raccoon. After the scuffle, Poppy ended up with an open fracture of his left front leg. Poppy went to @oaklandanimalservices and they referred them to us for treatment. Poppy’s owners have been through a lot and Poppy was their baby. We recommended amputation of the limb, but Poppy’s owners fell in hard times and wasn’t able to pay for treatment. Through our partnership with @oaklandanimalservices and @sfafaorg we were able to fund his surgery the same day. This is Poppy’s update: Our apologies for the delay response with updates for our Chihuahua Poppy from the raccoon attack. Poppy did very well considering his situation he slept most of the night. He's been taken out on the porch for some sunlight twice for about 5 mins and is now resting until his next dose. He endure allot yesterday for just a small guy and I believe he's wondering where his leg. Overall he's doing well. I can't thank you guys enough Sincerely Poppy's Mom We wish Poppy the best of luck and we’re so happy we were able to help! #veterinarysocialwork #veterinariansofinstagram #veterinarianlife #bipoc #dogsofinstagram #chihuahuasofinstagram #seniordog
