Spay/Neuter

Spaying/neutering your pet is one of the best things you can do for their long-term health. We offer spay/neuter surgeries by appointment. Here's why it matters:

  • Protects your pet's health. Spayed females have a significantly lower risk of uterine infections and certain cancers. Neutered males are less prone to testicular cancer and some prostate problems.

  • Improves behavior. Many pets become calmer and less likely to roam, mark territory, or show aggression after being altered.

  • Saves money over time. Preventing one litter — or one serious illness — costs far less than treating it.

  • Reduces overpopulation. Every year, shelters take in more animals than they can place. Spaying and neutering is the most effective way to change that.

When should I spay/neuter my pet?

We spay and neuter dogs and cats starting at 6 months of age.

  • Female Dogs: We recommend spaying your female dog before her first heat cycle. Heat cycles happen every 6–8 months and are hard on your dog's body. They also put her at risk for pyometra — a serious, life-threatening infection where the uterus fills with bacteria and pus.

  • Male Dogs: Neutering can head off a lot of unwanted behaviors — marking, roaming, and sexual behavior driven by a very strong instinct to find a mate. Neutering also prevents testicular cancer, prostate problems, and perianal fistulas.

  • Female Cats: Female cats can cycle in and out of heat every one to three weeks for up to ten months a year. During heat, cats are loud, agitated, and prone to urine marking on furniture, walls, and anything nearby. More importantly: 90% of mammary tumors in cats are malignant and spread fast. Spaying early significantly reduces that cancer risk.

  • Male Cats: Neutering male cats before these behaviors get established makes a real difference. Marking, roaming, and fighting are much harder to address once they're ingrained — so earlier is better.
