Xoco's Story

Xoco, a very sweet, two-year-old Shar Pei, was rescued after being abandoned in a local park. She finally had a safe home — until the day she was violently attacked by another dog. The injuries were catastrophic: deep, necrotizing wounds that rapidly turned gangrenous.

Her mom tried everything, but the specialty clinic was out of reach, and several general practices didn’t feel equipped to treat injuries this serious. She was running out of options, and Xoco was running out of time.

When Xoco and her mom came to Vets in Vans, our team supported them right away. We anesthetized Xoco for multiple bandage changes and helped Xoco’s mom access financial support so Xoco could get the life-or-death treatment that she sorely needed. After stabilizing Xoco, we made sure she had a safe place to continue her healing while our team was away providing spay/neuter services in Baja.

Xoco pulled through because no one gave up on her. When families are met with compassion instead of judgment, pups like Xoco have a chance.
